Classes
I teach Pyrography
(woodburning) to all levels
of students. I try to provide a positive learning experience for my
students with lots of one-on-one hands on training and works with students
individually at their own level.
I feel that how you teach is just as important, if not more, than what you
teach. Based on my own experiences taking classes
with
other instructors, keeping the good and throwing out the bad, I have
developed my own style of teaching. I try to provide a positive
learning experience for my students with lots of hands on training. I work
with students individually at their own level while providing each student
with one-on-one instruction.
In class, students can choose from
a variety of my patterns or students may bring their own, but they are also taught how to work from
photographs so that as their skills improve and they gain confidence they
can create their own original works of art rather than using someone
else's
patterns or copying someone else's work. I encourage students
to experiment and develop their own personal style and technique so their
work is unique and doesn't look like a carbon copy of someone else's work.

right were taken at
the NW Scroll Saw Show sponsored by the Wooden Teddy Bear held in July,
2005 in Portland, Oregon. Initially we were reluctant to participate in the show because we didn't
think scroll saw people would be interested
in woodburning, but what a surprise. I did a 1 hr presentation to
over 200 people...It was standing room only!
Before I even got back to our booth from the seminar Al was inundated with
people interested in buying burners, books and supplies.
What a thrill it was to have so many people interested in learning more
about woodburning.

for seminars, demonstrations and for instructional classes. I also
