It was my fascination with old sepia-toned photos that inspired me to find a way to create that style with my woodburning.  My woodburning technique which I refer to as the "smooth shading technique" gives the appearance of an old-style sepia photo which is just what I was trying to create in my portraits.  It is a technique where you use the woodburning pen much like a paint brush creating smooth, blended shading that is detailed and clear.

While growing up and beginning my artistic development, I struggled with portraits and swore never to do them again.  Now, with pyrography I have found a new passion in my portraits.  A portrait artist who now does pyrography said this of  my portraits.  "Nedra's portraits are not just a copy of a photograph, but they actually capture the "breath of life" of the person".
